Cinema in France: Unlimited Passes and Korean Films

start with JARI

  • Community — start a movie outing (모임) to go together.

Korean films often screen for a limited run — flag them.

the unlimited passes

If you go 2-3 times a month, an unlimited pass quickly pays off:

  • UGC Illimité€19.90/month for under-26s, €23.90 full price (a flexible no-commitment plan exists).
  • Pathé CinéPass€18.40/month for under-26s, around €22.90 otherwise. Both cover most theatres; premium screenings (IMAX, Dolby, 4DX) cost a surcharge (except top-tier plans).

Check which chain is near you (UGC vs Pathé/Gaumont) before choosing — that's the real deciding factor.

VF or VOST? (worth knowing)

  • VF = French version (dubbed).
  • VOST = original version with French subtitles. To watch a film in its own language (English, Korean…), look for VOST screenings. Paris has plenty; outside big cities it's rarer. Times on AlloCiné.

🇰🇷 Korean films in Paris

  • Art-house cinemas (Latin Quarter, MK2…) regularly show Korean films in VOST.
  • The Korean Film Festival in Paris (FFCP) runs late October-early November (Publicis Cinémas, Champs-Élysées) — the highlight of the year.
  • Follow Korean releases and screenings.

without a pass: good deals

  • A ticket costs ≈€11-13; cheaper in the morning and on weekdays.
  • An under-26 rate is often available (carry your ID).
  • Independent cinemas are usually cheaper than multiplexes.
  • 5-ticket booklets exist (a good middle ground if you don't go enough for unlimited).

tips

  • Book online for big releases (they sell out).
  • Previews and Q&As with the crew are announced on AlloCiné.
  • A pass is easy to cancel depending on the plan — check before signing.

common mistakes

  • Getting an unlimited pass for a chain not in your area.
  • Watching a foreign film in VF thinking it's the original — look for VOST.
  • Paying full price when an under-26 / morning rate exists.
