Paris in 1 day: the essentials, done right

Paris in a day with the JARI community

The idea

In one day you don’t do everything — you do it well. This route follows the Seine from east to west, on foot and by métro, to see as many icons as possible without rushing. Around 8 hours; comfortable shoes essential.

Morning (9am–12:30pm): the historic core

Start early at Notre-Dame and the Île de la Cité, then walk to the Louvre (book the 9am slot if you want to go in — see our Louvre & Orsay guide). If you prefer the outside, walk the courtyard and Pyramid, then the Tuileries garden.

Midday (12:30–2pm): Tuileries → Champs-Élysées

A light picnic in the Tuileries, then up to Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe (climb optional — see our viewpoints).

Afternoon (2–6pm): the Eiffel Tower

Head to the Trocadéro for THE photo, then the Champ-de-Mars at the foot of the tower (go up or picnic — our Eiffel Tower guide).

Evening: the sparkling Seine

Finish with a Seine cruise at sunset, or stay at the Trocadéro to watch the tower sparkle (5 min at the start of every hour after dark).

JARI tip

Get a one-day métro ticket or top up your Navigo pass. Avoid Tuesday (Louvre closed) and Monday (Orsay/Versailles closed). Book your Louvre and Eiffel tickets online the day before — otherwise, do the “exteriors” version with no queue.
