Cafés, brunch, food halls, viral bakeries: the addresses of the moment from the community and the JARI pros.
Specialty coffee.
Belleville Brûlerie (10 rue Pradier, 19th) — the pioneer roaster; grab a filter and beans to go.
Boot Café (19 rue du Pont aux Choux, 3rd) — tiny, blue "Cordonnerie" front, the most photogenic. Flat white .
Ten Belles (10 rue de la Grange aux Belles, 10th) — a perfect flat white and cookies , near the Canal.
Café Oberkampf (3 rue Neuve Popincourt, 11th) — the shakshuka and banana bread.
Most close early (5–6pm): coffee is a morning game.
Weekend brunch.
Holybelly 5 (5 rue Lucien Sampaix, 10th) — Melbourne-style savoury pancakes (egg, bacon, gravy). No bookings, arrive at opening. €20–30. Expect 30–45 min wait on weekends.
The viral bakeries.
Boulangerie Utopie (20 rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 11th) — the charcoal pistachio croissant and the award-winning baguette.
Mamiche (45 rue Condorcet, 9th) — the babka and cinnamon rolls.
Mokonuts (5 rue Saint-Bernard, 11th) — the cult miso-chocolate cookies (lunch by reservation).
Food halls & rooftops.
Ground Control (81 rue du Charolais, 12th) — a former SNCF depot, world cuisines, bar, DJ.
La REcyclerie (83 bd Ornano, 18th) — organic canteen, brunch, urban farm on the Petite Ceinture.
Marché des Enfants Rouges (39 rue de Bretagne, 3rd) — the oldest covered market in Paris (1615); lunch at the Moroccan or Japanese stall.
Le Perchoir Ménilmontant (14 rue Crespin du Gast, 11th) — rooftop and cocktails at sunset.
The "feed" and work angle.
For a quiet laptop café and good photos, the East (Canal Saint-Martin, Belleville, Oberkampf) is the best ground: spacious cafés, wifi, light. Avoid brunch hours if you want a table to work.
JARI tip.
Many of these are closed one day a week and close early — check. Book where possible (TheFork).
