Seeing Paris without spending is possible: ask the community and JARI pros for your tips.
The permanent collections of 11 municipal museums are free every day: Carnavalet (history of Paris), Petit Palais (fine arts), Musée d’Art Moderne, Maison de Victor Hugo, Cognacq-Jay… And on the first Sunday of the month, the Louvre, Orsay and Picasso become free for everyone.
The Sacré-Cœur (free entry) and its forecourt, Notre-Dame cathedral, the free rooftops of the department stores and the Institut du Monde Arabe (our viewpoints).
The Buttes-Chaumont, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Parc de Belleville (free view), the riverside Berges de Seine, and Père-Lachaise cemetery (Piaf, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde). Not forgetting the flower market on the Île de la Cité.
An apéro by the Canal Saint-Martin, window-shopping the covered passages, and wandering the Marais: the best of Paris often costs nothing.
Time your visit for a first Sunday of the month for the big museums free (still book online). And many museums are free for under-26 EU residents — keep proof on you.
