Offbeat Paris: off the beaten path

Offbeat Paris with the JARI community

Want to skip the clichés? Ask the community and JARI pros for the spots tourists miss.

Underground: the Catacombs

An underground ossuary lined with the remains of millions of Parisians. Reopening in spring 2026 with an immersive route — €31 (€25 reduced, €15 for children 8–17), free on the first Sunday of the month, online booking required.

Nature reclaiming the city

The Petite Ceinture (an old railway reclaimed by greenery) and the Coulée verte / Promenade plantée (12th), an elevated walk on a former viaduct — the inspiration for New York’s High Line.

Hidden Paris

The covered passages (our photo spots), the Butte-aux-Cailles village, the artists’ courtyards of the upper Marais, and Père-Lachaise cemetery (Piaf, Morrison, Wilde).

JARI tip

Book the Catacombs well ahead (limited slots) and beware of fake “skip-the-line” tickets sold outside: buy on the official site. For the Petite Ceinture, check which sections are open to the public (15th, 20th).
