Language Study in France: Why, Where, Budget

Start with JARI

Doing a language stay in France — to finally speak fluently, prepare for studies, or obtain a residence permit — takes planning: school, visa, budget, certification. Every choice matters. JARI's Professional Services support you from A to Z: choosing the school, building the visa file, preparing the exam, and settling in — without missteps.

Why learn French in France

  • Full immersion: you progress much faster than remotely.
  • Study goal: reach the required level (often B2) to enter a university.
  • Residence / nationality goal: since 2026, a French level is required for most permits (A2 multi-year card, B1 resident card, B2 nationality).

The three key decisions

1. Choose your school. Alliance Française, university center, or a "Qualité FLE"-labeled private school: compare by budget and goal. See Choosing a French school.

2. Get the right visa. Exemption up to 90 days for Koreans, VLS-T for 3 to 6 months, VLS-TS beyond — with proof of funds. See Language-stay visa.

3. Certify your level. DELF/DALF (lifelong diplomas) or TCF/TEF (tests) depending on the goal. See DELF/DALF/TCF/TEF exams.

The budget to plan for

Factor in course fees (highly variable: from the affordable Alliance Française to intensive private schools), housing, the proof of funds required for the visa (often ≈€615/month), and exam fees. Paris is pricier than the provinces.

Getting organized

Enroll early (spots and exam slots fill up fast), gather your translated documents, and follow the logical sequence: school → visa → arrival → courses → certification.
