Emergencies & health: if you fall ill

Health on the go with the JARI community

An emergency, a pharmacy, a doctor: ask the community and JARI pros (we can help translate).

Numbers to know

112 (European emergency number, from any phone), 15 (SAMU, medical emergencies), 17 (police), 18 (fire). They work free of charge, even without a French SIM.

A minor issue? The pharmacy

The pharmacy (green cross) is your first stop: the pharmacist advises and sells many medicines without a prescription. Some open at night and on Sundays (“pharmacie de garde”).

Seeing a doctor

SOS Médecins comes to your home/hotel (paid consultation, reimbursable via your travel insurance). For an emergency, head to a hospital’s A&E (urgences).

JARI tip

Take out travel insurance before you leave and keep a copy of your passport and policy. Note your allergies/medications translated into French or English. If you’re stuck, the JARI community can guide you and help translate.
