Visa & Budget for Language Study in France

Start with JARI

Coming to France to learn French requires the right visa, a solid file, and proof of funds — and timing matters, often starting from Korea. JARI's Professional Services help you choose the visa suited to your length of stay, build the file, and validate your permit on arrival, without missteps.

Which visa by length of stay?

  • Stays up to 90 days: Korean nationals are exempt from a short-stay visa for a short language course (always check the current conditions).
  • 3 to 6 months: a temporary long-stay "student" visa (VLS-T) is generally required. It cannot be renewed on-site.
  • More than 6 months: a long-stay visa acting as a residence permit, "student" (VLS-TS), to be validated online within 3 months of arrival.

The application file

Prepare: an enrollment certificate from a French school, proof of funds (often around ≈€615/month), proof of accommodation, insurance, passport, and photos. Some student paths go through the "Études en France" (Campus France) procedure before the visa application at the consulate.

The funds to prove

The consulate wants to make sure you can live there: bank statements, a sponsorship letter, a scholarship if applicable. Allow a margin, since the cost of living (especially in Paris) is high.

On arrival in France

For a VLS-TS, validate your visa online (ANEF platform) and pay the corresponding tax (stamp): this is essential to be legally resident and able to travel. Keep all your supporting documents.

Working during your stay?

The student visa allows limited work (within the annual legal limit). The temporary "student" visa (VLS-T) is more restrictive. Check what your visa allows before accepting a job.
