Paris in the rain: what to do indoors

Paris in the rain with the JARI community

A rainy day ruins nothing: ask the community and JARI pros for the best indoor plans.

The museums (the obvious)

The Louvre and Orsay can fill a whole day. Also think of the free municipal museums (Carnavalet, Petit Palais). And the Sainte-Chapelle: even under grey skies, its stained glass stays magical.

The covered passages

The 19th-century arcades are made for this: Galerie Vivienne, Passage des Panoramas, Passage Jouffroy — shops, tea rooms, glass roofs, not a drop of rain (our photo spots).

Cafés, brunch & food halls

Settle into a specialty café or a long brunch (our food guide). Covered food halls (Ground Control, Marché des Enfants Rouges) are perfect for a warm lunch.

Shopping under cover

The department stores (Galeries Lafayette, Printemps) and the Marais (open Sundays) let you wander for hours (shopping guide).

Warm up differently

The Butte-aux-Cailles pool (heated) or an arthouse cinema for a cosy break.

JARI tip

Keep a small folding umbrella and waterproof shoes. Book museums online to skip the queue in the rain, and favour dense neighbourhoods (Marais, Opéra) where everything is covered and close.
