Family Life in France: School, Childcare, Allowances

Start with JARI

Raising a child in France when you come from Korea means discovering a system rich in rights and benefits — but also in paperwork and administrative French. From pregnancy to school, each stage has its deadlines and its contacts. JARI's Professional Services support you at every step so you miss nothing and enjoy family life with peace of mind.

The main stages

1. Pregnancy & birth. Very well-reimbursed medical follow-up, declaration to the CPAM and CAF, choosing a maternity ward, leave, and birth registration. See Pregnancy & birth.

2. Childcare. Crèche, childminder, or in-home care, with the CAF's CMG to ease the cost. Places are scarce: plan ahead. See Childcare.

3. Schooling. School compulsory from age 3, registration at the town hall, and UPE2A programs for children who don't speak French yet. See Schooling your child.

4. Financial aid. Family allowances, APL, PAJE, ARS: many benefits depending on your income. See CAF allowances & aid.

Key contacts

  • The CAF: family allowances, housing benefit, PAJE, ARS.
  • The CPAM (health insurance): reimbursements, maternity/paternity leave.
  • The town hall: school registration, crèche, civil status.
  • The PMI and the Relais Petite Enfance: free follow-up and advice for little ones.

The right reflex: anticipate and declare

Many rights depend on steps taken on time (pregnancy declaration, crèche registration during pregnancy, birth declaration within 5 days). And remember to report every change (birth, move, income) to the CAF to avoid overpayments.
